Fua'amotu International Airport on Tongatapu has flights from New Zealand, Fiji and Australia. Domestic flights and ferries link Tongatapu with Vava'u, Ha'apai and 'Eua, and cruise ships call at Nuku'alofa and Neiafu.

Things to do
- Swim with humpback whales. Slip into the water with licensed operators to watch mothers and calves glide past between July and October.
- Sail around Vava'u. Cruise a maze of sheltered islands and anchor in turquoise coves for snorkelling and beach picnics.
- Hear Sunday hymns. Join a church service to hear powerful, harmonious choir singing that fills the whole building.
- Watch the Mapu'a 'a Vaea blowholes. See waves explode through holes in the reef along Tongatapu's southern coast.
- Visit Ha'amonga 'a Maui. Stand beneath the giant stone gateway sometimes called the Stonehenge of the Pacific.
- Feast on an umu. Taste pork, fish and root vegetables slow-cooked in an earth oven at a traditional feast.
- Kayak to Swallows' Cave. Paddle into a sea cave in Vava'u where shafts of light illuminate swarms of fish.
- Hike on 'Eua. Explore rainforest, cliffs and sinkholes on one of Tonga's most rugged and least-visited islands.
