Most international flights arrive in Dushanbe, with some to Khujand; land borders with Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan are popular for overland travellers.

- Visit ancient Panjakent. Walk the ruins of a Sogdian Silk Road town and the nearby Bronze Age site of Sarazm.
- Soak in Garm Chashma. Bathe in the mineral-rich hot springs and travertine terraces of the western Pamirs.
